MEXICO,GUERRILLA WARFARE IN MATAMOROS: THE NUMBER ONE OF DRUG DEALING KILLED
Antonio Ezequiel Cardenas Guillen, alias “Tony Tormenta”, 48 years old drug dealer, one of the leaders of the association that manages Mexican drugs, has been killed a few days ago during a gunfight on the border between Mexico and the United States. He has been wanted for years and Dea, the American anti-drug agency put a 5 million reward on his head. He had lost the leadership of the association after 2003, when his brother Osiel Cardena Guillen was arrested and later extradited to the United States.
The news of his killing has been reported by Alejandro Poire, spokesman for issues concerning the safety of the Mexican President Felipe Calderon. More than a gunfight, it seemed to be a real battle lasted some hours in which many people died.
Apart from the drug dealer, during the gunfight two soldiers, a journalist and other three members of the gang lost their life. The gunfight took place in Matamoros, on the borderline with Texas, frightening the inhabitants living in that area that took refuge in the shops and in their houses to avoid the gunshots. To minimize damage, the bridge linking Matamoros and the city of Brownsville was closed. Tormenta had been accused by USA of having brought into the country tons of cocaine and marijuana.
Antonio Ezequiel Cardenas Guillen in the State of Tamaulipas was the bitter enemy of Josè Eduardo Costilla, also known as “El Coss”, leader of the bloody cartel of Los Zetas, previously linked at the same cartel. The Gulf cartel controls the most part of drug, arms and immigrants deal in Mexico. In the opinion of the federal government of Calderon, the capture of Tormenta was possible thanks to an accurate work carried out by Mexican Intelligence.
